Simla
The Simla-Matheson-Ramah area makes up the Big Sandy School District. Below are glimpses into each communities own amenities. Simla, Colorado is located just 40 miles east of Colorado Springs along Highway 24. It has a population of just over 600 people. Most noteworthy, a brand new school framed by immaculately kept sport fields sits on the west side of town. In addition, the school provides a quality education for K-12 children in the Big Sandy School District. The Big Sandy School District includes Simla and the quaint neighboring towns of Matheson and Ramah.
Furthermore, the small businesses that reside in Simla include two restaurants, a grocery store, a meat packing plant, several auto/small engine repair shops, the Good Samaritan Nursing Home Center, several county service centers such as FSA, Double L Soil Conservation District, the road and bridge department, as well as several churches. It also has a wonderful library that offers many community services.
One of Simla’s claims to fame is that it is home to the late Glenn Morris who won an Olympic gold medal in the 1936 Summer Olympics. The town is located just South of the Big Sandy Creek. Consequently, there will be wild turkey and the occasional deer that roam the town.
